Autrice primée, militante pour les arts et traductrice, Aida Salazar écrit pour les adultes comme pour les enfants, avec une œuvre profondément ancrée dans les questions d’identité et de justice sociale. Parmi ses romans en vers pour le niveau intermédiaire, salués par la critique, figurent The Moon Within (lauréat de l’International Latino Book Award), Land of the Cranes (Américas Award, California Library Association Beatty Award, Northern CA Book Award, NCTE Charlotte Huck Honor, Jane Addams Peace Honor, International Latino Book Award Honor) et A Seed in the Sun (Tomás Rivera Children’s Book Award, ALA RISE Feminist Book Project Top 10 Book, NCTE Notable Poetry/Verse Novel Honor, Jane Addams Peace Award Finalist).
Elle a également publié l’anthologie illustrée In the Spirit of a Dream: 13 Stories of Immigrants of Color, l’album biographique Jovita Wore Pants: The Story of a Mexican Freedom Fighter et l’anthologie Calling the Moon: Period Stories by BIPOC Authors. Cofondatrice de LAS MUSAS, un collectif d’autrices Latinx pour la littérature jeunesse, Aida voit aussi l’une de ses histoires, By the Light of the Moon, adaptée en ballet par le Sonoma Conservatory of Dance, devenant ainsi le premier ballet de l’histoire inspiré par une Xicana. Elle vit à Oakland, en Californie, avec sa famille d’artistes.
